Mestre Burguês

Technician and Master of 18 Brazilian champions, Brazilian Champion in 1987 (by the Brazilian Boxing Confederation), edited 2 capoeira books "O Estudos da Capoeira – 1976" and "Cânticos de Capoeira – 1978" Recorded 21 CDs, 13 DVDs and taught courses in more than 30 countries, organizer of several world events.

Antonio de Menezes, the Bourgeois Master, was born on 09/06/1955 in Laranjeiras/SE. At the age of three months he moved with his family to Rio de Janeiro. At the age of twelve, he took his first steps in capoeira with a friend from high school, Nelson, in Ramos. The two, in order not to be beaten by China, a boy who liked to beat everyone, bought the book "Capoeira Sem Mestre" and started training. Over time, he came into contact with the circles of Mestre Mentirinha in Ramos, Bonsucesso and identified with the style of Mestre Paulão, founder of the Muzenza group.

At that time, Mestre Paulão was starting classes at the Clube do Bolinha, and Burguês decided to enroll. The nickname resulted from the fact that after collecting bottles and lead through the streets and selling scrap iron, he paid the 3-month monthly fee in advance. Mestre Burguês dedicated himself a lot to capoeira and after a few years, Mestre Paulão, busy with his activities in the navy, transferred the command of the group to Burguês, who is the president until today.

In 1975, after teaching in Madureira and Meyer (RJ), he went to Curitiba, transferring the headquarters of Muzenza to Paraná, initiating a work focused on the roots of capoeira, implementing this modality in clubs, schools, needy communities, universities and barracks.

Throughout his career, he held several congresses, national meetings, founded the Paraná Capoeira Federation, the Brazilian Capoeira Confederation and the Brazilian Super League of Capoeira, of which he is president. In 2006 he returns to the city of Rio de Janeiro, rediscovering his roots, friends and family, renewing his energies to continue the saga of the Muzenza Family
